Not sure if I am allowed to post this, moderators please feel free to delete if required.

On the 24th June I was involved in an incident which saw 2 members of the public die and also 3 firefighters who I work with injured, one seriously with 50% burns.

I know a few on here have their opinions on firefighters which was evident during the strikes. However, Steve, the guy I have worked with is facing some serious life changing events over the coming months and the Firefighters Charity is going to be used to support him in any way it can.

I guess I am just trying to push the charity in the hope that people can pass it on. I have set up a page here which has all the links to the news stories along with links to the charity etc.

God that sounds nasty! Really hope that he has a good recovery.

I really do take my hat of to people in the Fire Service. The other day I was on a Fire Safety at Work course which was being run by two serving Firemen.

Part of the training simply consisted of watching some videos one of which was some CCTV footage from an off-licence.

Two kids had decided they wanted to steal some sweets so one went up to the counter whilst his friend lit a newspaper and threw it into a display cabinet. Immediately it caught fire yet more people still walked into the shop, saw the flames but didn't say anything to the shop assistant who was busy serving another customer. The flames got higher and higher and the kid who was trying to steal the sweets left the shop. Only once the flames had got so high that even the most dumb of customers could no longer ignore it did they point it out to the shop assistant who then tried to use the fire extinguisher, only to set it off in her own face. A few seconds later everyone ran from the shop as the flames were now blocking the only escape route and the smoke filled the room. From ignition to the point that everyone ran from the shop was just 75 seconds by which time the temperature in the shop was so high that nobody would survive let alone the smoke inhilation.

Beside the fact that this is bad enough, Fire Fighters put themselves in harms way to actually enter the shop to put the fire out.

Total respect!

WTS I'm not one of those people that don't respect the risks that the emergency services take on our behalf as a part of their day to day jobs. Hope he recovers quickly.

Thoughts are with your colleague.

Ditto. Hope they get a good recovery.

That video SL refers to is a great one, particularly the speed it develops. On all our fire courses we really try to drill that into people, and for those in charge try to get them to appreciate they must get everyone out rather tham waiting for the boys in the big red truck to sort it out. The less reason for a firefighter to enter a burning building the better.

Thanks for your support, it is appreciated. It was probably the worst night of my career to date to be honest. Tonight we have been informed that Steve is to lose his fingers, so its not good.

In respect of the video, it was in Thresher Store, I have the Vid on my PC, its just under 50mb
