Hmm.. I've got a cheque through from a client and they have missed one of the letters out of my business name. I waited over a month for this cheque, so am unkeen to go back to them with it.

My business name is all one word, so at a glance it looks the same - I'm with Abbey and I post cheques to them. Should I just bung it in the envelope and hope for the best.

What would they do if it's noticed? Would they send it back, and charge me? What would it be called?

Just pay it in - I'd doubt they'd notice it. I've paid in cheques before with misspelt names - even one that wasn't signed :O

As Mr Jee, pay it in, it should be fine.

There's an (unknown) limit on the value of cheques that can be paid in when completely incorrectly. At the bank I used to work at it was £500, but we're going back 10 years or more, so it may be a different amount now, and may vary by bank. Things you can get away with:

- slightly wrong name (not Mr Jones when paying into Mr Smith, but Mr Smyth or Mr Smiff would be okay)
- not signed
- figures and words don't match
- date written incorrectly (e.g. wrong year)
- post dated

etc etc
