Went to 'share' me My Music folder with other accounts on me pc. Normally I edit it via the properties for the folder. This time for some unknown reason I clicked on the option to share by dragging the shared documents folder. Accidentally dropped it on a sub folder so I deleted it and got a message about a filename being too big to fit in the recycle bin. Went back to My Documents to drag it to the proper folder and discover I have no 'My Music'.  fear

Bastards!

I do have all 16 Gb backed up online but hey, that's not the point, I wanted to share the buggers not remove them completely.

Where's this here system restore point by the way?

Failing that how do I recreate the folder with the jazzy icon etc?

system restore might not help, its a small registry and settings backup basically, doesn't affect data files/documents AFAIK... otherwise you'd have a lot of lost space

I don't see how dropping a folder somewhere else in the filesystem accidentally would delete anything tho

I deleted it from the folder I added it to Rosco. I assumed it wasn't going to physically move it but just copy it to the shared folders.

Have done a system restore and My Music has not made an appearance.

However, the system restore has toasted my online backup software. If I run it it crashes. If I try to delete it then windows tells me it doesn't exist any more, even though it runs at boot.  crybaby

I think Windows doesn't like me,

Just reinstalled me backup software. A close shave.

So I've made a new My Music folder. How do I get it with the musiccy type icon rather than a plain old folder?

still unsure what you mean (but I am shattered)... if you drag something between directories on the same drive, Windows will by default move them... if you mover between different drives (or partitions) then they will be copied... I tend to right-click-drag, so that when I release the mouse button I am offered options of what to do (move/copy/create shortcut)

wouldn't have thought it would, its a system settings backup utility, not a file backup... basically a cheap and nasty way of going back to how your system started up before malware bore into the registry... ye still cannae whack a clean install tho big grin

was the software installed since the restore point you chose to revert to?  you may need to reinstall it

As I'm sure you've guessed by now. The shared documents folder isn't a magical way of sharing stuff. It's just a folder that every user on the machine can see by default.

Right click on the folder icon and select properties, under one of the tabs there'll be an option to change the folder icon. On mine it's under the customise tab (but mine's been altered so may not be the same as for you).

Alternatively if you download the TweakXP powertoys app from MS there's a repair feature in there and you can repair the my music icon from that.
