Having generated a couple of comments on my new site, I thought it only right, as part of my learning experience, to put it up for critisism.

As many will know, I am no expert when it comes to web sites, but I have to admit I have worked hard to get this one running, it took me 6 months to complete. I have to thank Jee for the initial layout but I am sure he will let me claim the credit for adding the content and more importantly learning how to add it all so it was XHTML compliant. I think out of 195 pages, there are 3 that do not validate, and thats because of the way some of the submission forms are written. I have also learned, the basics of CSS, I think, although I did struggle on certain parts of it and wish I knew more so that I could change a few things.

I would also like to thank the members of DDN who have pointed me or helped me over the years. smile

Hope you like it. I dont think its bad considering its a hobby.

You've done a cracking job! As you say, all we did was give you the layout, and you did all the hard work!

I think its looking great,

The only thing that confused me slightly was when the left menu changed to development menu (but I soon worked it out) I would just make the home link a little bolder in the header.

Its a great site with loads of content, it must have taken a lot of work smile

I think it looks bloomin brilliant!

Well done on putting in all that hard work, it was well worth it. I took the chicken sh1t approach to my site and realised that I didn't know anything about CSS could only 'design' using tables, didn't understand XHTML at all and knew even less about PHP and SQL. So in the end I went for a CMS and just concentrated on adding content. Although I'm happy with my site there's always that nag in the back of my mind that says "but you didn't design this yourself and you wouldn't have the faintest idea how to fix it if it broke". So 10/10 for peservering and not taking the easy way out.

My only criticism, and it's a small one, is that your Fireservice Logo (the actual words) is too compressed

Well done on what you've learned. Learning CSS and xHTML is a good thing as it teaches you good methodologies (doing things properly) and attention to detail.

The site is also a great resource and well put together smile

Good work fella smile

I agree about the logo; also your XHTM tick icon should say XHTML wink but apart from that there's little I'd want to criticise, you've done a very good job.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I will take all the comments on board and will look to make the ammendments suggested. I think I should probably have a different colour menu for each section, which may help denote your in a different section.

Great job Carl. It's a nice, slick design which feels appropriate to the subject. The pixelation Charlie is talking about is over-compression on the logo - that's definately worth addressing. The only other point I would make might be to have the four buttons at the top of the homepage (that change on rollover) different from each other to differentiate between the different subject areas - delineate the content a bit and add some visual pep to the mix. But overall, you should feel justifiably pleased with yourself.
