trying to give my PC a bit more 'poke' .. would changing the Virtual Memory setting help ? Currently have initial size as 1536MB with max of 3072MB
should I change that ?

another weird thing that's happening is when I have several browser windows or tabs open, they close and vanish .... all very weird
