Just had a client tell me he didn't want a 'designed by...' link to my site on his homepage. Never had this before so was caught a bit unawares (on the phone), and settled for a £100 payment to not have the link. Just wondering what others do about this, for future reference.

Incidentally, they are not trying to claim credit for the site or anything like that, they just feel my domain name, being a personal name doesn't fit with their corporate image. I don't have a problem with this at all, I choose to use my own name because it attracts a certain type of client. Just interested in others' experiences...

Some clients don't like it, and it gets removed if they ask nicely. It's not the be all and end all. See if they'll let you put it on your site under the portfolio smile

That's already agreed. It literally is just that they don't want my name on it. It would have been okay if my own business name was a bit more corporate.

Well you should always put it in source for the html in a nice little comment on top. Personally neither me or the company I work for put it on the websites.

Id be fine with it for a 100 quid really. Its just one of those things, and you got a nice bit of cash for doing nothing!

I always put a link but if client requests not to have it then I remove it though of course if it's a high profile site it could bring you business. Couldn't you just create a name, buy the domain and have a holding page and use that ?

Yeah, I'll put something in the code. Might get an alternative name in the future though Charlie, a more corporate one. It'd be interesting to know which approach is better. I know I get some of my business because the client knows it's just me, and they get to deal with just me, but I realise that other people want to feel they are dealing with an organisation (even if it's just some kid in his bedroom).

Thanks for the ideas...

I'd always assumed his name wasn't Sue, more a play on words and spelling.

Nah, I've vented that already.  Anyway, it's Friday, and you know I'm always more chilled on a Friday.

I'd always assumed his name wasn't Sue, more a play on words and spelling.

So females aren't capable of word play?  Interesting assertion there, Mr Anderson.

Call me old fashioned but Id always assumed Sue was a woman.

I do love a bit of gender ambiguity.  Anything that shocks Mail readers can only be a good thing.

I always thought it was "Suede Men" but that's my disleckzea perhaps, someone scary and best to be avoided. LOL.

I hope that was a nervous laugh.  You think I should be avoided?  You should look me out, young man - you might learn something.

That's sexist. Being a beeyatch doesn't make you a woman.

Quite right - I'll rephrase.

As a result of your assumption that Sue Denem is a play on words, should I assume that you assume that females are less likely to play on words because you assume I'm male?

Sod it, it's easier not to explain and qualify tiny detail I post and assume you've got the mental capacity to understand the drift of what I'm saying.

I understand the drift of what you're saying and trying to imply. The fact that it's entirely way off base is clearly lost on you, so allow me to help you comprehend. There was no suggestion that either gender does anything, merely that you as an individual were having a play on words and not using your user name to provide an indication of your gender.

Is that easy enough to get?

Most people say 'he', even with my username I get called he. That's the way of male orientated web forums.

Indeed, as in the business world where letters are still addressed to "Mr Smith" or salutated with "Dear Sir" unless the sender knows otherwise.  It's not "male orientated", it's patriarchal and anyone not stuck in the 19th century will avoid.

Whichever way you look at it, your OH assumes I'm male.  Even if his suspicion that suedenem is a pseudonym is correct (my leap from that to the suggestion that he thinks women aren't capable of wordplay was perhaps a little mischievous), he's reverted to what one might call "institutionalised sexism".

Which, as I said in my reply, is interesting.

Yes, based on your overtly aggressive posting style (even more so than my own and most others I know).

Is that institionalised sexism? No, it's just ordinary experience of people. Most women aren't so aggressive unless threatened. By hiding behind a suedenem (sic) and refusing to show any of your work when asked, you're not under threat. Therefore you're showing more generalised male behaviour. Are there exceptions? Yes, I've observed aggressive women in the past - but they're very few and far between in my experience.

Anyway, this is boring and I couldn't give a damn what gender you are. I made an observation about your suedenem, read into it whatever other irrelevancy you want.

See now 'pseudonym' is what I thought your username meant (but couldn't spell it so couldn't find it in the dictionary).

Is that institionalised sexism?

Opinion is divided on whether gender traits are inherent to the sex of the individual or social constructs, which bares similarities with institutionalised *insert ism here*.

Yes, based on your overtly aggressive posting style (even more so than my own and most others I know).

So an aggressive posting style is enough to make you jump to the conclusion that I'm male.  Do you feel your alpha male status on here is threatened by someone called Sue?

Interesting.

(I know, I know... minority politics interest me when others would just shrug shoulders and say "meh".  You'll have to excuse that).
