Previously when I've had blocked sinks, a good plunger and/or caustic soda with boiling water has always shifted it .. this time though it just won't unblock. I've had several lots of caustic soda, Mr Muscle drain unblocker (which didn't !), boiling water  ..... any foolproof ideas before I have to take a loan out for a plumber dry

unscrew the u bend pipe under the sink. It should be possible to do this by hand. Make sure you have a bucket or basin underneath first as the u bend is designed to retain some water in order to prevent travel back up. A good probing through these pipes will either a) save you a plumber, or b) confirm you require one.

cheers Sam . I did consider that option but it's in a pig of a place to get at (its in the bathroom) and right behind the sink base .. not sure I can get at it without pulling the sink away ... rented property eh .. oh well .. I might have a proper go see if I can get at it tomorrow .. cheers

Your landlord should deal with it if its a problem that keeps happening. Ours did.

Which Mr Muscle did you use? the single one or the dual action that has 2 liquids which mix together. The dual action one works very well. If it's a bad blockage it may take a couple to eat away at whatever's blocked the pipe.

You could try unfolding a wire coat hanger and having a gentle prod under running water.

ta all ... I did try the coat hanger thing but didn't do anything .. don't think it was reaching the blockage .. It was the single mr muscle .. maybe I'll try the double though I've spent a fair bit already on stuff that didn't work.

I think though that I'm going to try the landlord ... I've just been outside and the wall is wet too (and it's not rain) though that loks a bit higher than mine but could be part of a bigger problem.

Is the correct answer, you rent the property therefore it isn't your own.  banana

Pah .. you'd think wouldn't you .. apparently because it's inside, it's my responsibility so I have to pay a plumber !!

I could probably argue but best not to piss them off .. I've been here 5 years without a rent rise and my neighbour has been here 12 and is still paying the same rent .. wouldn't want to upset that !!

I'll give that double mr muscle a go and then give up and get a plumber ...

A girl I know had a problem with a blocked toilet or something and got a plumber in.  Their solution? Blow the swine up.  There was literally poo everywhere.  She has a photo - I'll try to get hold of it!
