Hello!

I am still alive just incredibly busy (just moved house - work's manic etc.) Aaaaanyway...

Yesterday I spotted a car on a local garage forecourt that took my fancy, it's an 04 vectra estate 2.0 Diesel. I currently drive a 52 reg vectra 1.8 petrol. I'm wondering if it'd save me much cash switching to a Diesel? (I commute 300 miles a week, which currently costs me just over £50 p/w).

One thing that worries me slightly about switching to this one is it has higher millage than my current car - I've just done 50000 this one has 78000 on it, is that an issue?

What do you reckon Dads?

Diesel engines tend to last quite a bit longer than petrol.

With diesel prices the way they are at the moment I didn't notice that much of a difference when I switched from diesel back to petrol.

Don't worry about the mileage - my diesel is at 130k now, and still going strong. As long as it's good a good regular service history, you should be fine smile

I have a 2 litre diesel laguna, and can do 600 miles on a tank (~£60) mainly motorway/national speed limit

the 2l vauxhall diesel seems to be a good engine imo. V quiet at m'way speeds and quite frugal. And pretty reliable.

I've got a 1.8 Turbo Diesel Focus. 7 years old and still going strong (touch wood wink) I do about 470miles on £44 of Diesel. I'd get another Diesel if I was looking for a car.

Wouldn 't have a diesel personally, but thats just my personal bias. Yes, the engines do go on forever, but I'd still be cautious before buying anything with 78000 miles on it. Check number of owners, regular service history, has it been used for towing? Get an independant check done by the RAC/AA if you can.  smile

we had decided not to bother about this, but over the weekend we're coming back round to the idea of changing cars - so I'm gonna try and get home tomorrow and give the diesel a test drive. I'll let you know. big grin
