Hello all,

First post on the new forums and I'd like to ask a question to all of you who make some cash from ads on websites.

I currently run a football forum site for the team I support.  It is the only forum site for our club.

Currently the visitor stats for the forum are as follows (taken from an average month):

Total Hits 2,329,820
Total Files 972,774
Total Pages 110,973
Total Visits 29,770

What I want to do is add a website on to the back of this providing match reports, news, comment and fanzine style articles (particularly heavy on this as I have good contacts who will be willing to write good quality and interesting articles)  I'd anticipate this adding at least 50% on to the visitor stats, if not more.

What I want to do is add some kind of advertising to the site to make some kind of money from it.

Can anyone suggest:

a) what kind of ads I could use - and also how easy they are to sign up to, install to the site and retrive payments from.

and
b) what kind of money could I expect to make monthly from this kind of traffic.

Thanks,
Jamie

With TLA it depends on a few things, such as Google Page Rank, Alexa Rank etc, but it can be anything from 7 or 8 dollars a month up to a couple of hundred a month per link (regardless of the amount of click-throughs).

For those you have to have a click-through lead to a purchase within the lifetime of the cookie (which is 24hours IIRC). For random ad placements it can be very hit and miss, for targeted ones it might be better, but still limited unless you go for the whole shop type thing or use them as supplementary to other ad sources. IMO.

For ads I think TLA is the best as, once you sell a link, you get guaranteed income every month. You can sell on single pages or whole site, and you can decide how many to sell. You also get to vet adverts/advertisers before accepting the sale. They're also very unobtrusive, plain text links.

You could look at affiliate schemes like commission junction if you wanted a wider scope.

They would be targetted - i would be using links for books on the football club the site is on, and maybe some general football books.
