Forum Dads,

We want to replace the taps on the basin and on the bath in our bathroom without ripping the basin off the wall or the bath out. How?

What tools do I need?
Is it difficult?
What do I need to check?
How do you do it?

Tap spanner.

Make sure the water's off.

Don't mix the hot and cold up.

Plumb in a stopcock type thingy on each pipe to make maintenance easier.

Use flexible hoses for the connection to the taps.

Even simpler.

If its just a case of your taps looking old fashioned while the underlying plumbing is sound, you can just replace the top bit with a kit like this:

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/11577/Bathrooms/Bathroom-Taps/Tap-Reviver-Kit/SWIRL-Traditional-Style-Tap-Reviver-Kit

In essence this gives you a new-look tap with new innards (washer mechanism etc) without the grief. All you have to do to fit is:

a) Switch of the water supply
b) Unscrew old tap top
c) Screw in new tap top

Instructions come with kit. S'easy.  smile
