Is Askimet dead today?
I must have hand deleted around 1000 spam comments when I woke up today.
Any other Askimet like services available for Wordpress?

No, I havent set up a ban list I was relying on Askimet, but didnt realise that when it goes down I get flooded with Spam, offering to make my dick massive. The ironic thing is, all of them are coming from China. |

No, I havent set up a ban list I was relying on Askimet, but didnt realise that when it goes down I get flooded with Spam, offering to make my dick massive. The ironic thing is, all of them are coming from China. I refer the honourable gentlemen to here. That was when I stopped using Akismet and went for Spam Karma 2. |

No problems with Akismet here lately.
I've used Spam Karma 2 in the past and it does the same job as Akismet, just with all the records stored in your own database rather than WP's.

I change my filename for where the comments post to and my spam is 1 a week on virtually all sites. more on it here |

Them two, Askimet, maths question in comments, bit of .htaccess (flippin Russian) and somehow got it down to less than one a week. |

I dont want to ban Russians from registering, as they are actually quite a big audience for me. I just dont leik their spammy swine comrades.

I use the same method as Sarah along with Akismet to prevent comment spam, and get very little coming through. And use various htaccess rules to block certain referrers and user agents to prevent referrer spam as well as when I need to be more aggressive with certain sources of comment spam. Works very well. |

Akismet, Bad Behaviour and changing the filename. I don't get spam emailed through and it's reduced akismet caught spam and subsequently wasted space in the db, wasted bandwidth etc.

Installed Spam Karma 2, it seems a bit HARDCORE!
I think I will try changing the comment forms name next.
