I've used Goldwave a lot in the past. The free version has very little restriction compared to the paid-for.

Audacity is brilliant for that - it's a free audio program. I normally use Cool Edit, but I like auduacity because it does certain things faster without hassle!

Hang about...that's just not right...  MP3s work by cutting out sound outside the human scope of hearing, reducing the sampling rate, etc.  Even if you kept the sampling rate ridiculously high, the encoder's max-bitrate-per-second nonsense should still rip out some of the filesize.  What you've basically got there is a WAV file. wink So what's the point of converting if you end up with the same file size?

Maybe he want to play it on something which doesn't like WAV files. Not that unusual.

*edit - as he already said while I was writing that.

Your DAP won't play WAV files?

Tell me...is it rounded at two edges, is its default colour a very generous shade of "spunk," and does it feature a large circular shaped navigational device on its front?

Goldwave is a good tool, been using it off and on for ages now.

dbPowerAmp is good for converting from pretty much any audio file type to another, done just by right clicking on the files you want converting.

I've been using http://www.zamzar.com/ quite a bit recently. Pretty convenient although maybe less so for files that large.

You could play it and use an app to record/rip the sound stream.

Dunno about anything to do it directly though.
