Useful for testing. Mind you if iTunes is anything to go by it'll eat memory.

Doesn't work for me, I get a blank browsers window - no menus and pages are screwed up. Ah well!

Can't really tell here as our internet connection seems to be really b0rked today. Seems fine for testing but like Jeep says it's not going to replace FF for me.

works a treat on my win 2k3 server box here at work. Rendered pages look really nice too The downside is that the issues I know my pages have on safari 2 mac appear to be fixed with safari 3 so I still need to get the mac test machine working.

Seems like it's about on a par with Opera. That is, it uses a fraction of what IE or Firefox use. FF, IE, Safari and Opera all open on the same page and with same window size:

Dave - no idea how you get such low memory usage from either Opera or Safari - I've not used Opera for a while but it usually sat at 50M and Safari opens up for me at 35M and climbs up past 50M in no time. That's on my work XP laptop. Still less than Firefox though Interesting article from Wired: Apple's second major foray into the Windows world, after iTunes, is a curious choice. Safari has never been especially well-regarded as a browser, even among Mac users, and the new Windows version will do little to convince people in the Microsoft camp to make a switch. I'm a little underwhelmed by it to start with, but we'll see how it goes. Extentions are a winner for Firefox, so we'll see how/if Safari can compete

I've not used Opera for a while but it usually sat at 50M and Safari opens up for me at 35M and climbs up past 50M in no time. That's on my work XP laptop. Still less than Firefox though I'm on XP pro SP2 too. It's no fluke though (for me at least) - Firefox: 103,148k, IE 7: 25,792k, Opera: 20,532k and Safari: 20,352k. That's with them all open on this thread with not other tabs open. The only differences is that Firefox is open at 1024px width and the others at 1280px, and Firefox has been used for general browsing, the others mainly just sitting there open for about an hour while I've been reading forums. Extentions are a winner for Firefox, so we'll see how/if Safari can compete
It's very unlikely that it's going to replace Firefox for me, at least not in the foreseeable future. I use FF for more than just general browsing due to its extensions it has far more going for it than the others, despite its own shortcomings - slightly slower (due to the amount of extensions I use, in safe-mode it's faster than Opera for me) and the memory leaks. Still, Safari has only just been released as a beta and it's the first attempt that Apple have made at porting it to Windows, so there's going to be teething trouble. Long-term I think it could take a fair bit of IE and Opera's Windows market away from them, consumers like shiny things.

In Safari's defense, it IS noticebly much faster than Firefox on most sites I visit. Flickr is often very sluggish for me on FF but it flies open with Safari. Shame that I really like using those Greasemonkey scripts. Just trying it out on here - most things work, apart from the "new" button took me to the top of the discussions and also the scroll wheel won't work. Not much to complain about really, but it's not as great as a certain Mr Jobs might suggest

Windows task manager is not a reliable gauge of how much memory a program is really using (I don't remember what is as I haven't done anything with Windows for ages). If a program is using lots of memory it is usually because there is nothing else more important that has a use for it, as soon as something does the OS will take it back.
Fairy snuff Task manager is currently telling me that Safari is using 103M of RAM - 3 tabs open: Here, Flickr and Gmail. It's filled up all that spare RAM nicely that FF is closed

They mention it, but seem to want to ignore it, but it's a "beta" version of the first ever version for Windows. There's bound to be issues, this is what beta testing is aimed at finding so that it can be fixed before the software becomes a full commercial release.
