I bought mine from amazon france monday last week, it arrived on monday this week - everything's the same except the plug which quickly got snipped off and swapped wink I believe the warranty covers all of europe too. You should be able to get one from france or germany - or anywhere else in europe for that matter ... there arent even any customs charges if ordered within the EU

All the manuals, box, etc in French?  Is it just a question of switching on the console and changing the language preferences to English?

The whole box has the standard languages, english french, german and spanish. I imagine everything no matter where in europe it's going is kept pretty much the same to keep costs down - all languages in the 1 manual, all languages on the console to select from (default is english) and the same on the box.
The only thing that's different is the plug ... and the price! The warranty is for all of EU, although i probably invalidated it by chopping off the plug.

BTW my sister got a wii last crimbo and noticed on the website that you can get free remote rubber jacket and the new style wristband that comes with the new consoles, all you need is the consoles serial number: http://wiiportal.nintendo-europe.com/22686.html
