Online Gambling - odds?

Hi all,

I fancy placing a bet
on the outcome of a race, but have never done any gambling before...

If the odds were "2.10" does that mean for every ?2 i bet i get ?10 + the original
?2.00 i bet if the outcome of the race is how i betted or is it the other way round?

and for odds of "11.00" what does that mean? how much do you have to
bet and how much could you win?
