One of our clients is transferring both their hosting and the domains to another registrar. I asked the old host to repoint the DNS to the new host which they have done but the new registrar says the DNS will not update until the domain registrar transfer has gone through. Is this correct? I was under the assumption that if the DNS got repointed it was 24/48hrs. The new hosts are saying we'll have to wait 7-10 days for this to go through!

Theoretically it should be working within 24/48 hours as you say. If the new registrar says it won't work until the transfer has gone through then I can only presume they're somehow stopping it from working. Is it a case of them essentially refusing to set up the domain and hosting until the domain is in their clutches?

It's not Internetters is it? They won't give me DNS access on one domain until hosting is purchased.... even when I would point the nameservers to my own anyway....
