I recall reading somewhere that Sky BB was over subscribed and more pants
than a pair of brown and white y-fronts.

Is this still the case?

Not sure but I'd be interested in
finding out as I might be installing BB for my father in law and I was going to go for it for him.

How sky can offer you BB, TV AND a phone line
for ?26/month, and keep a reliable service running is beyond me wink the wholesale price of BB is about ?9 per line, and then they have to pay for central pipe usage, bandwidth,
hardware, IP's, staff etc...

I'm moving house soon and will be considering
Sky broadband. Does anybody here actually use it? I'm sure I could find all sorts of reasons for it being crap over at ADSLGuide if I wanted to

I use sky BB ATM having recently ditched Virgin
to save some cash (I'm a sky+ subscriber so it seemed sensible to throw all my eggs in one basket).

I'd never really had any issues with VM / NTL but sky
was going to be ??s cheaper a month.

On the whole they're OK although I do find my connection gets dropped at least once a day, sometimes several times.
rebooting the router always fixes it so feck knows what the cause is. I've never quite got round to calling their tech support about it yet.

Clearly I
wasn't sure, hence the question mark. I thought it may have been you, sorry.

I get all that plus free unlimited national and
international calls for 30 Euros (?20) per month.

Rip-off Britain as usual ?!

I was reading an article on one of my feeds today about how so  many French customers are ripped
off left, right and centre by ISPs, especially if things go wrong. Unfortunately, I can't remember which site it was on....

Essentially, you're laughing
while it works. If it stops working - good luck!

Ripping off customers is not exclusive to Britain.

Wholesale BB has come down to about ?7.50
IIRC and wholesale line rental from BT is ?10/month.

Calls can be routed VoIP most of the way so that's where costs are saved; we're now able to offer
businesses free calls between sites so can be done.

Yeah, I think I know the story you heard.

The choice and
service we get over here is excellent and very good value. The going rate, as I said for unlimited BB, telephone (national & international calls) and about 50 TV channels is
30 Euros (?20) / month. This includes the "line rental".

Obviously at those prices, they got a lot of subscribers and therefore a lot of calls from noobies
to teh help-desk. This wasn't a premium number, but still cost moniez, mainly cos people spent 30 minutes in a queue before the call was processed.

There was a
bit of an uproar about it from our equivalent of OFTEL and legislation actually went through making it illegal for ISP's to charge the callers while they are in teh queue.
Teh French are moaners, but it sometimes has its advantages wink

But in terms of the stability, I have no complaints at all smile
