I had 2 missed calls on my mobile from 2 different 0706 numbers yesterday. I tried calling one back and I got a message saying it wasn't a mobile number and I'd be charged a lot more to call it.

Anyone know what these numbers are and the type of person/people who'd have one? I find it strange that I had 2 calls from 2 different numbers on a Saturday from them.

I'm just wondering if they're showing up to mask say an overseas number or something as it's usually only friends who phone on the weekend.

A common scam that's been around for quite a while. Don't bother with any of these 070... numbers cold calling, cause they're just one big ripoff.

Cheers PG. It just seemed odd that I had 2 in one day!

I'm sure my mobile mentioned between XX and 85p or something like that. Mind you once I realise it wasn't a standard mobile I didn't pay much attention!

These number are meant for "Personal Numbering Services", with the idea being that they provide a roaming telephone number which will forward to a landline, mobile or answerphone service, depending how it's set up.  Yac.com is an example service.

Rates vary but are intended to cover the cost of providing services; scams around them are well documented, though.

So this SEO copywriter walks into a bar, grill, pub, public house, Irish bar, bartender, drinks, beer, wine, liquor...

Beware my weird, cross-dressing comment's; they are pretty standard examples of trolling.
