Long story which I'll try to make
short.

I went to Spain with the better half two/three years ago and borrowed her sisters digital camera (Samsung Digimax 301) as we didn't have one at the
time.  Whilst we were out there the camera died, walking down 'las ramblas', and we were using the internal memory. Sad

We said we would get it fixed
and hopefully get the pictures off but haven't got round to it, until now, which is why I'm posting.

Any suggestions?  A friend had a similar dead
camera situation and paid ?60 to get it fixed in a local camera shop only for it to die again.  We're not bothered about the camera, just the pictures.

In the good old days you could take a faulty
camera into the average camera shop and they would either be able to repair it or send it to one of numerous service centers to be repaired because film cameras where either all
mechanical or mechanical with some electronics. Digital cameras though have pretty much stuffed that up because there is very little that can be repaired without it either going
back to the manufacturer or one a manufacturer's service center and even then, if it's too complex, it just gets sent back to the factory anyway,

Your best
bet is to give Samsung a call, tell them the problem and ask where the nearest service center is, although they will probably say just to send it to them. It might take a while
to be repaired though and they might come back and say it's not financially worth repairing it in which case you might want to tell them in advance that what you really
want is the photos off the internal memory which, assuming the circuits aren't fried, should be reasonably simple for them to do it's just that they might not want to
do it due to the time it takes to do it. It's the sort of thing they'd do for a pro with a pro camera but might turn their nose up at this but hopefully not if they
value their customers!
