Saw these ads:
SSL Certificates $14.00
/>100% Single Root SSL Certificates
Instant and issued in minutes!
www.ssllayer.com
Sponsored Links$19.99 GoDaddy Turbo SSL
GoDaddySSL.com
256-Bit encryption. Upgrade & save! 99% browser recognition.
So what's the catch with these cheaper SSL services?
What do you use?

I'm about to purchase a rapidssl cert for a site transmitting personal data via contact forms - the encryption/ubiquity etc seems fine for a relatively "low spec" service like this. Cost is around £15 per year.
For a high volume, high transaction value ecomm application, you might want to consider a cert. from a recognised provider e.g. Geotrust, Comodo etc. The lower spec version of these come in around £55/year.
Depends what you want to do I suppose.
Just my 2p....

Supanames are usually a problem and particulalry so since they were taken over by Poopex. How they will fair with an SSL install request who knows but in my opinion they are a bag of sh1te.
We use Clook and just ask them to install the cert - usually done in an hour or so. You do need to provide some info generally as detailed here but your host will help (or if its Supanames they probably won't be able to help
)

We've had no problems (touch wood) using a shared cert with sitehq hosting for the Yawner Towers booking facility.
(old nige now waits for the inevitable someone to give him a list of his customer's credit card numbers)
