When hiring a car sur le continent, is the 'card' driving licence enough - or does one also have to flash the 'paper counterpart'.

Theoretically both, but I've hired cars in Germany and France before with just the card bit but take the paper bit anyway. I hired a car in Italy as well a long time ago but the ability to pay for it seemed to be all that mattered there.

I've only ever used the paper bit but then again I still don't have a card license It depends what info they need. I've hired in Austria, Germany and Lanzarote, but they all seemed to want similar info off it.

Chinese license is a bit of card with your photo on it that has been DOUBLE laminated.
That'll stop those who wish to make a fake card!

I got my provisional a few years back, and a year or two later passed my test. The price of the provisional had gone up in the meantime, so the cheeky bastards charged me the difference when I got my full licence!

Aperture Science We do what we must because we can For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead. But there's no sense crying over every mistake You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun For the people who are still alive
