The snow's almost here which means its nearly time for the Yawners' summer holiday. Fellow dads: whats the score regarding what you can and can't carry onto the great silver bird? Normally we check-in a couple of wheely cases, then I carry a small camera case and a bumbag (handy for passport, tickets and cash) while Mrs Y takes a ladies bag (ie bottomless) and a plastic bag full of newspapers. Will we have to change the habits of a lifetime of global travel?

Sorry. AFAIK, they limit it to one piece of carry on luggage, and they are getting v strict about dimensions & weight. Each airline is slightly different, so best look on their site.

v picky about dimensions + quantity of carry on. Edinburgh airport made me carry my laptop under my arm and cram the laptop bag into my hand luggage when going through security - but missed a bottle of coke, can of deodorant and a screwdriver.
Im not sure if the airlines care - its the airport security that are gimps about it all. Besides i got on a domestic flight with my gf's passport and vice versa. She also got from glasgow > heathrow > north carolina with a scalpel used for art in her hand luggage. It scares me!

Airport security is pretty mad atm. They emptied most of my hand luggage into the bin last time (shampoo, shaving gel, shower gel, bottle of water) but of course let me take my razor blades on board When I politely pointed out to them, that I could purchase all the confiscated items from the airport shops just 10 metres from them and take them all on board, they just shrugged their shoulders... Shops at the airport must be making a fortune.

When they take stuff out of your bag, you should say in a firm voice
'I WOULDNT DO THAT, IF I WERE YOU!'
Chinese planes dont let you take on any liquids without you drinking a mouthful in front of an officer first. Something to do with a mad bloke a few years ago taking kerosene on board in a mineral water bottle and having a party on himself.
Probably an angry monk.

Shops at the airport must be making a fortune. Once you're through the security they're not fussed on what you buy as I guess they trust what the shops sell. When they stopped people taking water and drinks on last year they said you could buy water from Boots or WH Smiths once through the security check. I think it's only if you've packed it yourself they don't trust it.
